I've just installed version 8.3.6 on an HP pavillion with vista 64BIT and it seems to be working great. I also had to download the help files separately, but nero provides a link for that. I tried Roxio Ultimate Creator 2009, all it did was keep my pc locked up. I haven't tried burning a DVD yet, but that's next. I have cyberlink power2go provided on the pc by HP, but its kinda bare bones. I had no problem installing the software. I have burned 2 audio CD's, and no worries. All in All, SO FAR, very satisfied.
I downloaded the install file and purchased a keycode from an ebay seller, went real smooth. I had to go to a specific shared folder to delete the neropatentactivation file, but it was a simple step. I tried Ashampoo burning studio 8, but found out it was not designed for 64 bit systems and was limited options-wise. So, hopefully This version of Nero will be as reliable for me as ultra 6 was.
Nero 8 serves well as a fairly decent burning software. I haven't come across any "bugs" or technical difficulties. This package tends to be fairly 'bloated'. The only features I use on a regular basis are "Nero Express", "Nero Burning ROM" and "Nero Vision".
I really used to like Nero6, but I am Czech, and it had major troubles with Czech special symbols. You can choose which one you like the best according to your needs. It might be that I have all my files on network drive (althought with 1G connection).
I made a switch to Nero8, and I was just disappointed. While installing the program was a sort of nightmare, uninstalling is nearly impossible. I was forced to find some freeware solution. (One always tries to stay away from those, but it is not always possible).
Nevertheless, other programs were several times quicker, from which one of the quickest is the old fashioned Nero6. It leaves traces untill you reinstal the whole computer. The thing I dislike the most was its extremely slow speed. It took about 25 minutes regularly to create an audio CD.
Not because they are free, but because they work better. InfraRecorder, Ashampoo Burning, Express Burn, CDXPBurner.
Nero 8 Ultra Edition for PC almost 1 month I did not received yet, I don't know why.
Nero 8 sucks. The worst part is that the help files are not at all helpful. It's a total waste of time to look at these extremely brief and unexplanatory help pages. When you hit the help button you get a message saying Dear User, in order to keep file sizes small, you'll have to go online and download the help file. Don't buy their product. When you do that, a zip file downloads that you then have to unpack. One example is the extremely poor HELP policy. They don't really add any information.
The file does not link into the existing Nero program, and must be opened separately. Every part of the Nero package has its own help file that works this way. You literally mouse yourself to death trying to figure out how Nero works. I really wish I had bought something else.
